Albuquerque, New Mexico
I had the pleasure of visiting Albuquerque, New Mexico, and it quickly turned into a favorite for me.
Make sure to also check out the other write up that I did while I was there. The Breaking Bad Filming locations!
But first, lets talk about the space that I stayed, the surrounding area and why I like it so much.
New Mexico is known as “The Land Of Enchantment,” and I quickly found out why. I drove to Albuquerque from Oklahoma and as soon as i entered the state, I was awestruck. It’s beautiful, expansive and yes, enchanting. I even pulled off the road a couple of times to take pictures and just stare.
I originally had a place booked in Albuquerque on a different side of town, but that place fell through. The host messaged me about 2 weeks before my stay and said that there was an internet issue. She knew that my main concern with any place that I stay is the internet (since I work when I travel), and she was unsure if the issue would be corrected due to timing and the holidays.
I was grateful that she told me (I am guessing some hosts may not have?), because it would have been a huge problem for me.
The place that I ended up finding, was towards downtown and specifically near Old Town.
It’s a 2 story condo, with an open concept and I was impressed with how nice it was!
It’s small, less than 800 square feet, but I travel by myself. I think it would have been very comfortable for a couple, but if you added more than a couple of people, it could feel smaller.
What I really liked, was the stairs that led up to the bedroom. They are visually appealing and there is a quote from Picasso.
The bedroom, bathroom and laundry area are upstairs and that is actually where I set up my work area.
It’s a small bedroom area, but very comfortable.
There is a balcony/patio off of the bedroom and then a patio downstairs, off of the kitchen.
It was a ;little chilly while I was there (it was the first week of January), so I didn’t have the chance to enjoy either one, but I am sure that it would be great in warner weather.
My only “issue” with the place, is that it was difficult to even up the heat between the upstairs and downstairs. If you turned the heat up to be comfortable in the living room, it got very warm upstairs. And since I worked upstairs, I would turn the heat down and it would be really chilly downstairs.
I am guessing in the summer, it would be the opposite with the air conditioning on. (colder upstairs and warmer downstairs)
Also, the floor downstairs is a finished concrete. It doesn’t look bad, but it is concrete, so it’s a bit cold.
All of that being said, I enjoyed my stay.
The area around Albuquerque is stunning. No matter where you drive, you see mountains in the distance. This picture was just random, in a Walmart parking lot.
And this was simply driving through a neighborhood.
I also took a drive out to the desert for part of the The Breaking Bad Filming locations write up that I did and seriously. I was mind blown. Yes, it’s beyond beautiful, but it’s so quiet and so peaceful.
And it was the one really nice weather day while I was there, so that was a bonus.
The one thing that I did notice out the area and Albuquerque itself, is that there seems to be a large homeless population. I did not have any issues and I don’t know it is is problematic for the city or if it just is what it is, but I thought it was worth noting.
I will wrap up by saying that this; Albuquerque was a wonderful place to visit and it’s now a favorite of mine. I am not sure what the cost of living is, but I do grocery shop, get gas and do a few other things when I am in each city that I visit and I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.
The Land Of Enchantment. Yes it is.
